Buford Elmo “Sonny” Lashley

Mr. Buford Elmo “Sonny” Lashley, age 89 of Atlanta, Louisiana passed away on Sunday, February 20, 2022.

Born Thursday, January 12, 1933 in Atlanta, Louisiana, he was preceded in death by his parents, Bermie Shows Lashley and Buford E. Lashley; and siblings, James H. Lashley and Willie Jean Snead.

Mr. Sonny was a member of Atlanta Baptist Church, a retired truck driver, and a was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He will be remembered as an avid gardener and as Atlanta High School’s #1 Basketball Fan.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Clark Lashley (Shawn), Brad Lashley (Leah), and Tammy Lashley James (David); 10 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; and siblings, Moeice Jones (Jack) and Walter Lashley (Cindy).

Billy Joe “Tennessee” Kerley

Billy Joe “Tennessee” Kerley, age 83 of Logansport, Louisiana passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2022.

Born Wednesday, March 9, 1938 in Crossville, Tennessee, he was preceded in death by his parents, Nora Bell Blaylock Kerley and Alvin Kerley; brothers, Carman and David Kerley; sisters, Thelma Greenlee, Hazel Kerley, Jean Carpenter, Helen Kerley, Rev. Clarence and Beulah Weatherford; and son, Douglas Ray Kerley.

Mr. Kerley was an avid hunter and fisherman after retiring from 49 years in the plywood business.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, LouVenia “Bennie” Kerley; sons, Ron Kerley (Carolyn) and Grayson Douglas Kerley; daughter, Jessica Jolene Kerley; grandson, Markiese Kerley; caregiver/special niece, Sue Forte; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at Southern Funeral Home, from 1:00 PM until time of services.

Johnny Garner, age 71 of Winnfield, Louisiana, went to meet his Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 6, 2022 after a lengthy time of declining health.

Born in Winnfield, Louisiana on June 14, 1950, he was preceded in death by his parents, John Wesley Garner and Mary Ethel Griffith, two brothers Robert”Bud” Garner, Paul Garner, and two sisters Janice Marie Hasselle and Carolyn “KaKa” Bedgood.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 52 years, Evelyn Garner; son Brandon Garner (Shellye) of Georgetown, LA; daughter Laurie Hennessy (Tobin) of Alexandria, LA; granddaughters Kaylee Garner and Alaina Hennessy; grandsons Tyler Garner, Logan Hennessy, and L T Hennessy. Sisters Emily Ann Gibson (Weylin) of Oakdale, LA and Paula Lucas. Also, a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He will be greatly missed but we will cherish the wonderful memories.

Vicky Lynn Carnes Jordan, age 64 of Dodson, Louisiana passed away February 8, 2022 at her residence.

She was a native of Charleston West Virginia and the daughter of the late Raymond Carnes and Gail Siders Carnes. She was also preceded in death by niece Rachel Barragan and nephew Donnie Carnes.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sister Karen Townsend (Aaron), brothers Donald Carnes (Mary) and Ronnie Carnes. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews as well as her brat cat “Knot Head”

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at New Hope Cemetery with Reverend Mike Green officiating. Graveside services are under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.

Marlene Vivian Wilson Ford

Marlene Vivian Wilson Ford passed away on February 1, 2022.

She was born on June 25,1934 in Zenoria, LA to Vezie (Red) and Melvina Wilson. She traveled around the world with her husband Jimmy D. Ford for more than 20 years before settling in Winnfield in 1971 after he retired from the Air Force.

She worked at Parkview Care Home for many years as an LPN and was known as a very compassionate and caring nurse who enjoyed taking care of her patients.

Marlene was a loving mother who always had a smile for everyone. A kind and compassionate person, she always did her best to help those in need. Many kids in Winnfield called her ‘mom’ and she was always happy to provide a hot meal and place for them to sleep for the night. Everyone was welcome in her house.

Sheri Rebecca “Becky” Ford passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2022.

Becky was born in Homestead Florida on May 10, 1969. She moved to Winnfield with her family in 1971. After graduating from Winnfield High School in 1987 and attending Northwestern University for two years, she decided to become a nurse and went on to attend Huey P. Long Vocational School where she obtained her LPN certification.

Becky loved working as a geriatric nurse and spent several years caring for her patients while working for Winn Home Health and other facilities in the area. She also worked in the Lafayette/New Iberia area as a marketing specialist for several rehabilitation and nursing care facilities. She was a very compassionate and caring nurse and often brought small gifts to her patients to cheer them up.

It all began on February 5, 1926, there was Lois McKinney Collins, known as Lois Collins, Mr.s Collins, Sister Collins. Then there were four more: Ollie Van Collins, Mary An, Dorothy Ann and Demarrion born to the late Joe and Addie B. McKinney. Now, there are two who remain, Dorothy Ann Sibley (Florence Alabama) and Demarrion Akpudo (Huston, Texas)

Lois Collins was married to the late Frank Collins, Sr. and between that union eight children were born: Tommy Ray, Beatrice McDonald, Izolia (deceased), Charles (deceased), Frank Collins (Cordine), Annie (Hellen), Earl and Murl.

She fought a good fight. She finished her course She kept the faith. She passed over November 28, 2021.

Mr. Conrad Allen Broomfield, age 79 of Dodson, Louisiana passed away on Friday, January 28, 2022.

Born Wednesday, December 16, 1942 in Jonesboro, Louisiana, he was preceded in death by his parents, Norman A. Broomfield and Lucretia Oglesby Broomfield; brothers, Ted Dewayne Broomfield and Ronald

Glen Fairless. Mr. Broomfield was a member of Dodson Church of Christ. He loved horse riding, fishing, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as his friends.

Rex Allen Ferrier, Sr.

Rex Allen Ferrier, Sr. passed away January 4, 2022 at the age of 66. He was born September 8, 1955 in Winnfield, LA to the late Floyd and Dorothy Ferrier.

A visitation was held Saturday, January 15, 2022 from 12:00 - 2:00 pm with a Memorial Service at 2:00 pm at Grace Funeral Home, 2401 Houston Highway, Victoria, TX. Officiating were Rev. Lamar Carpenter and Dr. Lydon Carpenter.

He is preceded in death by his father Floyd Ferrier; mother Dorothy Ferrier Kelley and a brother Ricky Ferrier.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Terri Lynne Ferrier; children Rex Allen Ferrier, Jr. and Marisa Lynne Ferrier and her husband Ernie Ray Johnson, Jr.; sister Dottie (Danny) Carpenter; brothers Donald Wayne (Rita) Ferrier, Glynn Dale (Rosie) Ferrier and Roger Ferrier; grandchildren Alana Johnson, Kane Johnson, Mason Allen Ferrier, Brennen Gray and Brandtley Gray.
